-drum roll please- And the breed of the week is.... the Cleveland Bay! The Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America can be found here: http://clevelandbay.org/. This horse is considered to be a critically endangered breed (you may have noticed, every breed discussed so far has been critically endangered. I'm doing this to spread awareness that they exist).
There are only about 500 purebreds in the entire world. Cleveland Bays are the oldest breed of horse from Britain. This was largely due to the church, who bred them as pack animals for hundreds of years. They were also an excellent choice of carriage horse for their strong backs and builds as well as beautiful bay coats. They're a level headed breed with a very intelligent mind, but they are sensitive to their handlers, and they can be ruined with poor handling. They're known for being extraordinarily bold and honest with their people, and also generally have superb stamina. They also tend to pass all of their traits and qualities to their offspring, which makes them ideal for cross breeding with horses like thoroughbreds to get a lighter weight horse that has the temperament of the Cleveland Bay. This horse is also known for being very versitile - being used for work, carriage and driving (in which they remain unsurpassed for skill), heavy weight hunting, eventing, and competing in the show ring on the flat or in hand.
